Interrupted Childhood

“Interrupted Childhood” is a portrait of the daily lives of the thousands of Syrian children who, during 2014 and 2015, have lived in refugee camps in Bulgaria or have crossed the Balkan borders on foot in order to reach Western Europe. For months, in addition to the psychological consequences caused by the conflicts and the abandonment of their homes, they dragged a continuous state of uncertainty accentuated by the lack of activities and a school.

Regardless of the legal status of these children, education is a right supposedly guaranteed by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the United Nations Convention on Refugees of 1951 and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU.
